Something new: Ghost, a Blogging platform designed to bring blogging back to its roots. As described on the official site,
Ghost is an Open Source application which allows you to write and publish your own blog, giving you the tools to make it easy and even fun to do. It’s simple, elegant, and designed so that you can spend less time making your blog work and more time blogging.
Sure, WordPress is the big name in the Blogosphere but its grown up now and has evolved to a more general design platform. I use WordPress as my blogging platform and it’s decent but innovation, not familiarity, is what drives technology forward. A platform specifically for article publishing might be just what people in that niche need.
Some details of interest, Ghost is built on Node.js and touts a highly responsive experience. Content is written in Markdown rather than HTML, and adapted to presentation on diverse platforms and screen sizes. Only at version 0.33 as of this writing, it may be a bit young to draw assertions but definitely something worth keeping an eye out on. I’ve not had a chance to give it a run as of yet but it looks pretty slick on Ghost.org. It is currently available as open source for you to run on your own site but coming soon is a hosted option.
